Nutella: mL in Grams and Grams to mL

Nutella is thick and sticky, so a spoonful never lines up with a spoonful of water. If your recipe lists Nutella in mL but your scale reads grams, here’s the number that gets you there: Nutella has a density of about 1.26 g per mL.

The Formula

mL to grams: Weight (g) = Volume (mL) × 1.26

Grams to mL: Volume (mL) = Weight (g) ÷ 1.26

So 100 mL of Nutella weighs 126 grams, and 126 grams of Nutella measures back out to 100 mL.

A Couple of Real Examples

If a recipe calls for 30 mL of Nutella to swirl into brownie batter, that’s 37.8 grams on the scale. Or say you’ve measured out 200 grams straight from the jar and want to know the volume — divide by 1.26 and you get about 158.7 mL.

Why Nutella Weighs More Than Water

Nutella is a dense mix of sugar, hazelnuts, cocoa, and oil — barely any water at all. That’s what pushes its density well past water’s 1 g/mL. It’s also why scooping it by volume can be unreliable: air pockets from stirring or scraping the jar change how much actually fits in a spoon, while a scale gives you the same weight every time.
