Convert Honey – From ML to Grams

Honey: mL to Grams (g) Converter

Honey is heavier than water, so 1 mL does not simply equal 1 gram. This converter uses the real density of honey (about 1.38 g per mL) to turn any volume you enter into an accurate weight.

How To Convert Honey – mL in  Grams and Grams to mL

Honey is thick, sticky, and never weighs what the mL reading suggests. If your recipe swaps between mL and grams for honey, here’s the number to remember: honey has a density of about 1.38 g per mL, making it one of the heaviest common kitchen liquids.

The Formula

mL to grams: Weight (g) = Volume (mL) × 1.38

Grams to mL: Volume (mL) = Weight (g) ÷ 1.38

So 100 mL of honey weighs 138 grams, and 138 grams of honey pours back out to 100 mL.

A Conversion Example

If a recipe calls for 15 mL (1 tablespoon) of honey, that’s 20.7 grams on the scale. Or say you’ve weighed out 250 grams straight from the jar and need the volume — divide by 1.38 and you get about 181 mL.

Why Honey Is So Much Heavier Than Water

Honey is basically concentrated sugar with very little water left in it after bees reduce the nectar. That’s what pushes it to 1.38 g/mL instead of water’s 1 g/mL. It’s also why honey sinks below water if you ever pour the two together, and why scooping it by volume is trickier than weighing it — the stickiness leaves residue behind, so a scale gives a more honest number.
