Jelly: mL in Grams and Grams to mL
Jelly is thick enough that a spoonful never weighs quite what you’d expect. If your recipe lists jelly in mL but your scale reads grams — or gives you grams when you’re measuring by the tablespoon — here’s the number to use: jelly has a density of about 1.245 g per mL.
The Formula
mL to grams: Weight (g) = Volume (mL) × 1.245
Grams to mL: Volume (mL) = Weight (g) ÷ 1.245
So 100 mL of jelly weighs 124.5 grams, and 124.5 grams of jelly measures back out to 100 mL.
A Couple of Real Examples
Say a recipe calls for 30 mL of jelly for a glaze — that’s 37.35 grams on the scale. Or flip it: you’ve got 200 grams of jelly left in the jar and want to know the volume — divide by 1.245 and you get about 160.6 mL.

Why Jelly Weighs More Than Water
Jelly is mostly fruit and sugar cooked down until a lot of the water evaporates, so what’s left is more concentrated per spoonful than plain water. That’s the same reason honey, syrups, and jams all sit above the 1 g/mL mark — less water, more packed-in sugar, more weight for the same scoop.
